Repost From Tommie V…
Wall of Tom- it’s been a minute, but I feel re-born. Music has always been my outlet, and these songs are from my heart and soul. They span the last twenty five years of my life and oh my gawd, does this band know how to rock em’. I wanted to share some of the photo shoot shots-
I think they turned out pretty cool, and really fit our current vibe. Lots of fun shows coming up in the next three months, a few benefits- especially one near and dear to my heart coming on November 19 for the Dos Pueblos Instrumental Music Program at Draughtsman Ale Works in Goleta. Hope to see my local friends out and about- and of course, if you don’t follow Wall of Tom yet, we are pretty easy to find on Spotify, YouTube and all the social stations. Special thanks to Jesse Natale of JNorth Productions for the awesome shots. 📸

Photos, and what to do with your hands:

It all becomes very apparent when I have to do a band photo shoot, that my happy place is actually on the stage performing- not in front of a camera , posing.

I don’t like to stand still. That can be seen clearly on my face. I don’t take myself seriously. That is the look I am giving the lens. And I really and truly, have no idea what to do with my hands.

But I do like to lean… and I seem to do that well- as I look through the proofs of our new band shots— taken by the talented Jesse Natale of JNorth Productions at their Summit Studios in Santa Barbara. Jesse knows me and the band well, as he shot two of our music videos, Tornado and Drive through Fire- so he is well aware of my neurosis, in front of a camera.
Although, to me, I much prefer shooting music videos to Photographs- again with the standing still not my strong suit. I love the creativity and artistry in making music videos- the telling a story with your song. It just lights my soul on fire… and Jesse thankfully, did not allow me to burn in our last video, aptly titled Drive Through Fire, where I sang right next to a burning bonfire. It was so fun, and I wasn’t uncomfortable at all, although, my back was a little hot.

But I digress, that’s me off on a tangent, it happens a lot lately. So, where was I going? Oh yeah, you have to have new band photos when you are a new band… Well, a new-ish band. A not so new band. Ok, we’ve been around the block, but not as this four-piece, ok?

And this time around I wanted our photos to have a simpler look, a little throw back style to pure rock n’ roll, a style that reflects our sound. So I looked back when band photo shoots were more about whiskey than fake eyelashes. A touch of leather and the well placed T-shirt…We did it all, and Jesse knew just how to set the light, just right.

As I look at the proofs now, I’m noticing a theme— and it seems I may be missing a beard? Gawd, those boys are hot with all that facial hair. I might need to re-name Wall of Tom to Band of Beards. Just kidding.

I thought I was done. With music. Something that had filled my soul with such joy, for so long. I told myself I had a good run, did lots of wonderful projects, made some amazing music with wonderful friends along the way, and even wrote a trilogy that encapsulated it all, and then some. But, I told myself that I was too old, a busy mom working a semi creative job to keep my kids futures afloat, cheering them on as they grew. Music, I told myself was for them now- and once and awhile I would sing a song with Tony and smile… but that was it. Wall of Tom had crumbled after the pandemic, we lost friends and we lost family, our hearts just weren’t in it anymore…
But then one day three months ago, we got a group text from Michael, wondering if, just maybe, we wanted to jam. Sometimes that’s all you need is a little nudge… so we tried it, and it worked, and it was different. We rounded up a new drummer, a seasoned pro transplant from Portland with a Seattle way of playing and a 90’s grunge feel. Wall of Tom’s new sound is harder, faster and well, rockin’- it feels closer to how it felt at the beginning, when we started as a four piece alternative rock band. And now we have reworked original songs that we never played before and turns out- I’m not dead after all. None of us are, and we feel everything that is happening out there in the world and we are pulling it into the studio and making it ours- and let me tell you - it feels fucking fantastic. In a place where cover bands rule the stages, this original band is back, and bringing the musings to life once again- LOUD. First show is June 6th, more details to follow…

Wall of Tom wins again for Best Music Video for Drive Through Fire at the Santa Barbara Indie Film Festival! Thank you so very much @sb_indie_film_fest 🙏 this video was made by a lot of special people- thanks to Jesse our DP at @jnorthproductions ,our creative and artistic director/editor Adam Hawk, costumes @jilkhunter , hair and makeup @brooklynstephen , our talented fire dancer @kamalamathis and location @thestarterfarm Mark Donofrio for opening up your beautiful farm for us to burn down. 🔥 If you haven’t seen the video, it’s scorching hot, and one of my favorite WoT songs- follow the link in our bio to watch and listen. We shot the video in three days, right before the world shut down, it’s incredible that we even got to make it, but how cool is it, that even after a virus changed our lives, a song and vision could still find its flame, all over again. 🏆🔥🏆🔥🏆🔥🔥🔥

There was a moment in the middle of our set, when I couldn’t help but choke up- at the overwhelming feeling of happiness that was filling up my soul. To say that I have missed singing and performing with these amazing humans is a severe understatement. I am incredibly grateful to be together again, to get on stage again, and to sing these songs for you again. Covid has been immensely tough on all of us, and there were many times I thought I would never play together again, and that depression was very real in my heart- but this here is pure joy for me. We are back at it, and it feels even better than I remembered. As a band we will still be a bit choosey about what shows we play, to stay safe for ourselves and our families, but we look forward to many more in the future. Thank you so much to @andresnuno8 and @enfuegoevents for having us rock your Fall Fest, and thank you to all our friends who came out to sing along with us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 #grateful #walloftom #firstshowafterlockdown #toolong #purejoy #wedressedup

Hey everybody, how the heck are ya? Wow, it’s been awhile since we posted, I guess we’ve been a touch distracted. Since this whole Covid thing hit, we had to lock down and take care of our families, so we really haven’t seen each other in the flesh since. I guess we could have been posting videos with our phones like everyone else, but I feel like that is a dime a dozen and I don’t usually do what everyone else is doing either. So I wrote a couple songs with my kids, who I’ve been homeschooling and they started their own band @theneweysband at age ten and seven, we shot a music video and have let them take over the reins a bit. I don’t know, I just felt tired of all the trying so hard and kinda enjoyed the idea of being a momma, a writer and you know, staying alive. But ... rest has never been my strong suit, and I am missing the stage, my band, and damn it, I miss you all that like to listen to Wall of Tom for all these years. So here’s the deal, we are sitting on a pretty fun song that we were going to release with Drive through Fire last year, and I’m tired of sitting. Tony and I are gonna dust it off, sanitize it of course, then let it go for all of you who need a little more Rock N’ Roll in your life. And even though it feels like we will never play to a crowd again, I have hope that sometime, someway, we will all be together again, smiling and singing, at the top of our lungs. Sending peace, love and hair grease to you all- stay safe, and stay tuned for more .

X,
